Are you a family with 2 or more languages? This study circle is for you! In a group, led by a language expert you will be given an opportunity to discuss language and education related issues such as bilingualism and school choice

Welcome to a study circle that focuses on language choices, bilingualism, and other questions facing international families living in Sweden.

The goal of the study circle:

During this study circle we will examine the balancing act that comes with speaking multiple languages in a family. Your home language might not be Swedish or have more than one home languages. You will learn about the challenges and the benefits of being bilingual. You will learn strategies about how to maintain all the languages in the family besides Swedish and English.

The study circle will brainstorm ideas on how to maximize the limited time you can spend with each language, capitalizing on friends and family and the opportunities available in Sweden. By the end of the study circle you will create a roadmap of your children’s language learning including their schooling for the short - and the long term.

Practial information:

The study circle is free of charge. You will meet online and the circle will be held in English. The first date is set but together in the group you will decide on the day and time for the following sessions.

About the circle leader:

Vera has over 15 years of experience as an international educator. She holds a Master’s degree in English Literature and Linguistics, a Bachelor’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and a postgraduate degree in Teaching Students with Special Educational Needs.

She speaks four languages and has worked with dozens of international families over her career. She is an English as an Additional Language specialist teacher and has vast knowledge about language learning, maintaining the home language, education as well as special educational needs. She looks at these topics from the perspective of the student, the parent and the teacher. She is interested in both the practical and the social-psychological aspects of education.
